ELECTIONS 2025 // Independent candidate withdraws, returns subscription lists to CEC, no registration

Independent candidate for September 28 elections has withdrawn from race.
Marcel Darie returned the subscription lists to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) on August 13 without requesting registration for the electoral race. He had initially sought permission to collect signatures in support of his candidacy on July 23 of this year.
As of now, 21 independent candidates requested subscription lists from the CEC. Among them, Andrei Năstase and Olesea Stamate successfully collected the necessary signatures and are registered to participate in the elections scheduled for September 28. The remaining 18 independent candidates are still in the process of gathering signatures.
Each independent candidate is required to collect 2,000 signatures, or 1,000 in the case of women, and they must not have been members of any political party at least 70 days prior to the elections.
In addition to the two independent candidates who will be on the ballots, the CEC registered the following parties: the Action and Solidarity Party, the "Democracy at Home" Party, the Coalition for Unity and Welfare Party, and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party.
Currently, the CEC is reviewing applications from four electoral blocs and five other parties.
The deadline for submitting documents for the registration of candidates for the position of deputy in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is August 19, 2025. The official electoral campaign will begin on August 29 and end on September 26, 2025.
