Moldova launches new online consular platform for citizens abroad

Moldovan citizens living abroad will soon be able to access a new range of online consular services.
The services are available on the new eConsulat platform, launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chișinău.
The platform will give citizens secure online access to consular services from anywhere in the world and allow them to track the status of their applications.
According to the ministry, eConsulat will digitise and automate consular processes. This is expected to reduce processing time, eliminate errors, and simplify the interaction between citizens and public services.
eConsulat services
Fully digital services (requiring an e-signature) include travel documents, police clearance certificates and requests for official documents.
Partially digital services (which require an in-person visit) include apostilles, powers of attorney, notarised documents and signature authentication.
The ministry has also said that citizens without an e-signature will be able to create an account on the platform to request partially digital services and book appointments in advance.
The platform will initially be available at a number of diplomatic missions, including: The Embassies of Moldova in Ukraine, Canada, Greece, Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates; the Embassy in the Kingdom of Spain and the Consulate General in Barcelona; Moldova's Permanent Representation to the UN in Geneva; and the Consulates General in Iaşi, Istanbul and Sacramento.
