Maia Sandu to diaspora: “These elections decide Moldova’s EU path”

The citizens of the Republic of Moldova, wherever they may be, can play a vital role in shaping the country's future. This message was conveyed by President Maia Sandu to participants at the Summit of Active Moldovans in the Diaspora, which was held on September 12-13 in Potsdam, Germany.

The event brought together representatives from the diaspora across various states, as well as members of civil society from the Republic of Moldova.

The head of state emphasized that citizens must show awareness, integrity, and courage in the current context.

“The choices we make now will determine whether we succeed in building a strong, united, and respected country in the world—a Moldova that will, in the near future, be part of the European Union,” Maia Sandu stated.

The president further noted that the unity and involvement of citizens, regardless of their location, are essential in the process of constructing a European future for the Republic of Moldova.

“Families do not always live under the same roof, but they remain families—and so do we, Moldovans. No matter where life takes us, we remain connected to Moldova through our shared desire to see it peaceful, free, and prosperous,” Maia Sandu declared.

This week, President Maia Sandu visited several European Union countries. Earlier, she delivered a speech at the European Parliament, where she discussed the Russian Federation's interference in Moldova's elections and outlined our country's efforts to combat propaganda and disinformation from Moscow.

Later, President Sandu traveled to Italy, where she met with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the President of the Italian Senate, Ignazio La Russa. She was also received by Pope Leo XIII at the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City.
