Hădărăuți Jam Festival: unexpected tastes and forgotten recipes

New flavors and old recipes came together at the Jam Festival, held in the village of Hădărăuți, Ocnița district. Housewives from the north of the country impressed visitors with jam made from hot peppers, pumpkin, and even garlic.

The Ocnița Jam Festival began spectacularly with a parade featuring artistic groups and participants.
Jams made from sour cherries, quinces, apples, and plums each have a unique story that has been passed down through generations.
"First, we begin with a blessing, then we take 1 kg of apples, 750 grams of sugar, and a lot of peace, love, and attention. It’s important to mix everything thoroughly over low heat, as this is the secret to a delicious outcome."
"The City Hall team brought some of the tastiest jams, carefully crafted by our local housewives using ingredients like melons, blueberries, plums, watermelons, blackberries, strawberries, and white cherries."

Some housewives came up with jams from unique combinations - from hot peppers, pumpkin or garlic.
"I came up with a variety of jams from the most diverse fruits, berries, even unexpected ones, from garlic, from hot peppers, when someone could say what kind of jam it could be".
"This year, I tried to make some non-traditional jams, namely jam from garlic, it is recommended for gourmets, but I like it. For half a kg of chopped garlic, an orange and sugar, it is preferably boiled in a pan".

Guests from Romania also tasted these unusual jams and were surprised by their taste and flavor.
"Certainly, in the Republic of Moldova there are special things and delicacies, because they are cooked with soul by our Moldovans and I want to congratulate them on this, exceptional preparations", says the mayor of Viişoara commune in Botoşani county, Laurenţiu Rîmbu.

The Jam Festival is in its third edition.
