"We inform that the European Commission's decision is very important and will contribute to the achievement of a priority national objective - diversification of the markets for poultry producers in the Republic of Moldova. The European Commission's decision also demonstrates that the national official control system implemented by the National Agency for Food Safety is recognised by the European Union," reads a press release issued by the Government in Chisinau.

The process of obtaining the right to export to the EU these products from the Republic of Moldova was a complex and lengthy one, preceded by an extensive exchange of information and technical consultations, audit missions both online and with the physical presence of European experts on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

"We appreciate the committed efforts of colleagues from the National Food Safety Agency, as well as colleagues from other public institutions, including the diplomatic service and development partners, in achieving this goal of national value," the statement said.

Official data show that there are 43 poultry breeding establishments and about 227 thousand individual poultry farms in Moldova, where a total of almost 6 million birds are raised.

In addition, there are 24 slaughterhouses for poultry slaughtering in Moldova, supplying about 45 thousand tons of poultry meat annually, and 12 egg collection centres, where about 253 million eggs are registered annually.

"The National Agency for Food Safety will continue to assess the eligibility of poultry sector companies that intend to export to the EU market in order to meet the necessary requirements to export their products to EU member states," the statement issued by the State Chancellery said.
