Maia Sandu on Moldova 1 TV: "Russia can no longer hit Moldova economically; we proved we can resist"

The Russian Federation will persist with its disinformation campaigns; however, it has become more challenging to apply pressure on the Republic of Moldova following the citizens' vote in the parliamentary elections on September 28. President Maia Sandu stated on the show "In Context" on Moldova 1 TV that Moldovans demonstrated "through honest voting" to Moscow that "we can resist and continue on our chosen path in the Republic of Moldova."

The President reiterated that the Russian Federation aimed, through the hybrid attacks launched against the Republic of Moldova, including vote buying, to “gain control over power and then do whatever it wants with the Republic of Moldova”.

The elections are over. Of course, disinformation will follow, as we have seen (...), but Moscow has nothing to do with us. It cannot turn off our gas. In terms of electricity, we will soon put the Chisinau-Vulcănești line into operation, providing us with additional alternatives. Our market does not depend on the Russian Federation. Yes, we still have some exports, but it cannot hit us economically as it did many times in the past, including when there were pro-Russian governments in power. And then it hit us with embargoes and our economic agents lost a lot”, the Moldovan President declared on Tuesday evening, September 30, on the public television.

Through the "honest vote" and the "courage" shown in the parliamentary elections, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova gave a "response" to the Russian Federation and we can be an example for the other states of the former Soviet Union, added the head of state.

"We demonstrated to Moscow that we can resist and continue on our path as we decided. We decide in the Republic of Moldova. We, the Moldovans. I believe that this example will be a good one for other countries from the former Soviet Union. Because not only here is Moscow trying to take our power, to deprive us of sovereignty, it is happening in other countries as well. And I believe that these countries will be inspired by our courage and the methods by which we fought against the interference of the Russian Federation. That is why we should not be afraid. In silence, in peace, we see our problems, we have a lot to solve, but it is good when at the helm of the country we have people devoted to this state, not people who would pull us back, into the gray area", pointed out Maia Sandu.
