Massive protests in Israel against judicial reform

Nearly 300,000 Israelis participated in the tenth weekly national protest against the Nationalist Government's plans to reform the judiciary. The largest demonstrations took place in Tel Aviv.

The government claims the Supreme Court is biased and wants a stronger say in appointing judges. Critics argue, however, that the measures will deprive the High Court of its independence.

The opposition continues to escalate tensions, with protesters vowing to intensify demonstrations if the government does not abandon reform in the field.
