Chisinau City Hall proposes to MAI to prohibit speeding over 30 km/h in the "historical zone" of Chisinau

The Chisinau City Hall will submit several proposals to the Ministry of Interior regarding the safety of cyclists in traffic. The Moldovan Cycling Federation is also calling for a speed ban of over 30 km/h in the "historic zone" of Chisinau. The announcement was made by the mayor of the capital Ion Ceban.

Cyclists are also calling on the authorities to impose tougher fines on drivers who speed and park in prohibited places. They are also calling for an action plan on the use of the alternative transport budget, as well as a plan to create cycle lanes and lanes for cyclists.

"We have also seen some proposals regarding cyclists in the wake of the tragic accident. We have seen a list of new topics addressed to the Chisinau City Hall. Please let us discuss these issues and submit our proposals to the Ministry of Interior. I think that the first step - banning the speed limit of 30 km/h in the historic area of Chisinau", said the mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban.

The initiative comes after an accident on 21 February in which two underage cyclists were run over by a car near the Stăuceni commune. One of the children died.
