Frost damage: Nisporeni and Orhei farmers file most requests for state compensation

Farmers submitted a total of 690 applications to the Agricultural Intervention and Payments Agency (AIPA) for financial support concerning more than 13,000 hectares impacted by adverse weather this spring. The application period for financial aid, specifically for those whose crops were damaged by late frosts in the spring of 2025, closed on October 14.
The most requests for support came from the Nisporeni and Orhei districts, with 40 requests each, followed by Fălești, Cahul, and Râșcani, informs the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.
The largest affected areas were cultivated with sugar beet—about 3.8 thousand hectares —followed by plum orchards—2.4 thousand ha, apple orchards—2.7 thousand ha, and cherry orchards—1.9 thousand ha, as well as apricot, almond, and peach plantations.
The financial support aims to compensate for losses caused by spring frosts and intense storms recorded mainly in the Cahul district.
The Commission for Emergencies decided, on September 10, to allocate 100 million lei to support farmers affected by natural disasters.
For the purpose of determining compensation, in the case of sugar beet producers, areas of up to 500 hectares per applicant will be eligible, regardless of the size of the affected land. The aid will comprehensively cover the cost of seeds used for reseeding, based on tax invoices. According to authorities' estimates, the expenses incurred by farmers amounted to approximately 113 million lei.
In the case of fruit growers, compensation will be granted depending on the type of orchard: 14,000 lei/ha for cherry, 13,100 lei/ha for apricot, 12,000 lei/ha for plum, 10,000 lei/ha for almond and peach and 8,000 lei/ha for apple.
For winegrowers from Cahul district, affected by the July storm, the financial aid will be 35,000 lei per hectare, and for areas smaller than one hectare, the compensation will be proportional to the degree of damage, AIPA officials told Teleradio-Moldova.
