Italy will recognize Moldovan driver’s licenses starting November 8

The Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development will open an office in Chișinău to support the implementation of development programs in the Republic of Moldova. This was announced by the new Ambassador of Italy to Chișinău, Giuseppe Maria Perricone, during his meeting on Friday, October 17, with Acting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi emphasized that opening the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development’s office will strengthen bilateral collaboration and bring tangible benefits to Moldova’s economic and social growth.

According to Popșoi, relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Italy currently rely on a solid partnership and active cooperation across many fields.

During their talks, the two officials also highlighted the importance of recent agreements between the two countries: the Social Security Agreement, signed and effective since September 21, 2025, and the revised Agreement on the Mutual Recognition of Driver’s Licenses, which will take effect on November 8, 2025.

The Moldovan foreign minister thanked the Italian authorities for their support in organizing the parliamentary elections on September 28. In Italy, which hosts the largest Moldovan community abroad, 75 polling stations were opened, and over 81,000 citizens cast their votes.

Ambassador Giuseppe Maria Perricone reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to supporting Moldova’s modernization and its path toward European Union membership.
