Helping children overcome language barriers. Romanian language programme for students in the diaspora

Children from the diaspora who return to the Republic of Moldova, as well as foreign nationals who live in the country, may soon receive extra support to adapt more easily to the education system. The Ministry of Education and Research proposes a special Romanian language programme for these students.
The programme would appear in the Education Code and would create a clear legal framework for Romanian language courses and their funding.
“This programme plays an essential role in helping these children integrate into schools and strengthen their Romanian language skills. Until now, the law offered no provision that allowed schools to organize such activities or receive funding for them, even though the number of children returning from the diaspora continues to grow,” said Minister Dan Perciun, quoted in a press release from the Ministry of Education and Research.
MEC representatives note that the new programme will help children overcome language barriers, adapt more easily to the school environment in the Republic of Moldova and integrate fully into the learning process.
The draft law is now under public consultation.
At a press conference on 2 December, Minister Dan Perciun presented a package of twelve amendments to the Education Code.
