The situation in the Republic of Moldova could be discussed at the next meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council. This proposal was made by the head of diplomacy from Bucharest, Bogdan Aurescu, at the meeting of foreign affairs ministers from EU member states - the Foreign Affairs Council, held yesterday in Brussels. Bogdan Aurescu emphasized the need to increase the assistance of the European Union for strengthening the resilience and security of the Republic of Moldova and the general support for the advancement of the accession process. The Romanian foreign minister also referred to the importance of the rapid establishment of the civilian mission of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova.

In his speech, the Romanian Foreign Minister, Bogdan Aurescu, spoke about the latest developments in Chisinau, in particular, regarding the recent destabilization actions and the latest protests organized with the involvement and support of Russia. In this context, the head of Romanian diplomacy emphasized the need to increase EU assistance for strengthening the resilience and security of the Republic of Moldova and the general support for the advancement of the accession process, but also the importance of the rapid establishment of the civilian mission of the European Union in the field of internal security in the Republic of Moldova.

Also, Bogdan Aurescu returned to the proposal launched during the February meeting, regarding the sanctioning of the persons targeted in destabilizing actions of the Republic of Moldova, emphasizing that Romania is already working on this aspect. European foreign ministers expressed their support for the sanctions regime proposed by Minister Aurescu.

We remind you that, Minister Bogdan Aurescu, proposed bringing back to the agenda of the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in the spring of this year, the theme of protracted conflicts, considering the need for a visible action of the European Union on this subject, especially, in the current regional security context.

At yesterday's meeting, European foreign ministers exchanged views on Russia's aggression against Ukraine, the implementation of the EU Action Plan for managing geopolitical consequences, the situation in Tunisia and the developments in Iran. The High Representative of the EU, Josep Borrell, presented the latest developments regarding the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue.
