Zelenski was invited to the NATO Summit in July. Zelenski: The day will come when security will be guaranteed for our country too
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has announced that Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has been invited to the alliance's July summit in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, CNN reports. Zelenski referred to the summit in his daily message posted on social media.
"A strong and independent Ukraine is vital for the stability of the Euro-Atlantic area and we look forward to meeting President Zelenski at our summit in Vilnius in July," Stoltenberg said.
He made the remark on Tuesday in Brussels following a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission - the body responsible for Ukraine's relationship with the alliance.
The NATO summit in Vilnius is scheduled for 11-12 July 2023. The official programme of the meeting has not yet been made public.
"This year's NATO summit in Vilnius deserves to be quite ambitious. The more ambitious the one who protects freedom, the less opportunity for aggression the one who wants evil has. The day will come when security will also be guaranteed for our country," Zelenski said in his daily message posted on social media.
The Ukrainian President also spoke about Finland's accession to NATO and how this shows that procedures can be speeded up.
"A historic event has taken place for our region, for the whole of Europe, for the whole Euro-Atlantic community. Finland becomes the 31st member of NATO. The Alliance is growing stronger on the Eastern flank. I congratulate all the people of Finland and Mr. President personally for a reliable security guarantee - a collective guarantee," Zelenski said.
