Pope Francis officiates the Easter service at the Vatican

Tens of thousands of believers are attending in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican, the service officiated by Pope Francis on the occasion of the Catholic Easter.

Last night, the 86-year-old Sovereign Pontiff, who was hospitalized last week, presided over the two-and-a-half-hour Easter Vigil of the Resurrection in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

Today, around 1:00 p.m., Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of 1.3 billion Catholics worldwide, will pronounce the Urbi et Orbi blessing, through which the Supreme Pontiff traditionally makes a horizon tour of the conflicts on our planet .

Just like last year, his message would be marked by the war in Ukraine, but also by the rekindling of tensions in the Near East and the recent shipwrecks in which several migrants lost their lives in the Mediterranean Sea.
