Two party activists face trial over Șor-funded protest transport scheme

The president of the Telenești territorial organization of the former "Șor" Party and the secretary of the Vulcănești territorial office of the "Șansă" Party are set to appear in court for their involvement in the illegal financing of political parties. According to law enforcement officials, they allegedly accepted and distributed nearly three million lei to party activists and individuals recruited to participate in protests, using funds obtained illegally.
The cases were documented by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Center.
The president of the Telenești territorial organization of the former "Șor" Political Party, which was declared unconstitutional in 2023, is accused of complicity in accepting illegal financing for the party from an organized criminal group.
According to state prosecutors, she allegedly coordinated the activities of the territorial organization between July and October 2022, fully aware that the party was being financed by sources linked to an organized criminal group.
In total, she is accused of accepting illegal financing exceeding 2.5 million lei, which was also used for mobilizing and compensating participants in protests organized by the party.
If found guilty, she faces a fine ranging from 57,500 to 92,500 lei or imprisonment for two to seven years, with both penalties including a potential ban on holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities for up to five years.
The second case involves the secretary of the Vulcănești territorial office of the "Șansă" Political Party. Investigators claim that she participated in coordinating electoral activities and distributing unaccounted funds to party activists and supporters in the Vulcănești district, with amounts ranging from 400 to 4,000 lei.
A total of approximately 464,750 lei was distributed through this scheme, which was used in the party’s political and electoral activities.
The accused has signed a plea agreement and is expected to receive a lighter sentence.
