Foreign Policy Committee approves new ambassadors

The Foreign Policy Committee of Parliament has approved the appointments of Inga Ionesii and Sergiu Gurduza as ambassadors of the Republic of Moldova to India and Portugal.

During the meeting on June 10, Dumitru Socolan, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), stated that both candidates possess extensive experience in public administration, diplomacy, and international relations. He emphasized that they are highly regarded for the expertise they have accumulated throughout their careers.

Inga Ionesii will be appointed as the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the Republic of India.

Throughout her career, she has held leadership positions in the Ministry of Economy, Chisinau City Hall, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, contributing to advancing the Republic of Moldova's economic and trade interests.

From 2016 to 2020, she served as the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Estonia, where she strengthened bilateral relations and advanced the country's European integration objectives.

While at the Ministry of Economy, she coordinated the negotiation and implementation of the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) with the European Union, and oversaw negotiations on several international trade agreements.

Since 2021, she has been working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she leads the Institutional Management Directorate and has been involved in organizing the 2023 European Political Community Summit. In recognition of her professional achievements, she was awarded the "Civic Merit" Medal.

Sergiu Gurduza is set to be appointed as the ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Portugal.

He is a diplomat and civil servant with over 16 years of professional experience in justice, good governance, and foreign relations. He is currently concluding his term as the Consul General of the Republic of Moldova in Istanbul.

Throughout his career, he has held several prominent positions, including Deputy Minister of Justice, Chief State Advisor to the Prime Minister, member of the Central Electoral Commission, and Advisor to the President of Parliament.

In recognition of his contributions to public service, he was awarded the state distinction "Order of Honor" in 2025. He is also actively involved in the non-governmental sector as an associate member of the Association for Participatory Democracy "ADEPT."

The two ambassadors will be able to commence their duties once they have completed all necessary legal procedures, including their appointment by government decision and presidential decree.
