Zelensky, Trump discuss peace strategy ahead of G7 Summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a diplomatic dialogue with the U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the ongoing war against Russia. The call, initiated by the Ukrainian side to honor the U.S. leader's birthday, focused on prospective peace agreements and battlefield developments.
Zelensky described the engagement as constructive, noting that both leaders agreed to further examine peace strategies at the upcoming G7 Summit. This meeting is scheduled to take place in Evian-les-Bains, France, between June 15 and June 17.
The Ukrainian president briefed the U.S. leader on recent tactical gains on the battlefield. Furthermore, Zelensky expressed gratitude for historical U.S. military support, specifically referencing systems ranging from Javelin missiles to Patriot air defense batteries.
While no formal bilateral meeting has been confirmed for the G7, officials indicate that the two leaders may convene on the sidelines. The session on June 16 is expected to prioritize Ukraine’s security needs, particularly the demand for enhanced air defense capabilities following recent Russian ballistic attacks.
Zelensky aims to leverage this period, lasting through the upcoming winter, to negotiate a peace framework with Moscow. However, the Kremlin has demonstrated no willingness to concede to Kyiv's conditions or initiate a reconciliation process.
