Russell wins Austrian Grand Prix from pole to close title gap

George Russell secured his second victory of the Formula 1 World Championship season with a commanding performance at the Austrian Grand Prix. Starting from pole position at the Red Bull Ring, the Mercedes driver controlled the race from the opening lap to claim the eighth round of the calendar.
The British driver crossed the finish line ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who finished in second place. Russell's Mercedes teammate, Kimi Antonelli, completed the podium after an intense late-race battle with the reigning world champion.
The victory allowed Russell to climb to second place in the drivers' standings. He successfully closed the gap on championship leader Antonelli, reducing the deficit to 40 points.
The Formula 1 World Championship continues on July 5 with the ninth round of the season. Teams will head to the United Kingdom for the British Grand Prix, held at the historic Silverstone circuit.
