Opposition rejects new pm selection, warns of government failure

Vasile Costiuc, leader of the "Democratia Acasa" party, warned on Friday, July 11, that appointing a new prime minister without replacing the current cabinet would ignore public demand for reform. The protest took place at the Presidential Office, where the party declined to participate in formal consultations.

Costiuc argued that the resignation of former Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu highlighted a fundamental disconnect between the government and its citizens. He stated that the cabinet remains largely unchanged, despite the leadership transition.

"If the government remains the same, the leadership has failed to understand the message from the people and from Munteanu himself," Costiuc stated. He emphasized that the ruling party leader, Igor Grosu, must take political responsibility for the current state of governance.

The opposition leader contrasted the living standards of citizens—many surviving on pensions of €51 to €102 (approx. 1.000–2.000 MDL)—with the high compensation levels of officials, reaching salaries of over €51.000 (approx. 1.000.000 MDL) annually. He utilized the metaphor of the "pie" to highlight the government's failure to distribute national wealth equitably, noting that while public resources for citizens have stagnated over the last six years, the financial benefits of the political elite have grown significantly.
