Government advances plans for the bypass road in Drochia

The government has established a preliminary research commission to designate the construction of the Drochia bypass road as a national public utility project. Nicolai Mîndra, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR), stated that this is a necessary step outlined by legislation to move the project forward.
"The R7 road is a crucial route for the Republic of Moldova. It is part of the trans-European transport network and connects Ukraine to Romania, running from Cosăuți to the Costești–Stânca border crossing. The construction of the bypass road will redirect heavy traffic away from the city of Drochia, enhancing road safety and reducing congestion caused by large vehicles in the area," stated the Secretary of State during the Government meeting on July 15.
The commission established by the Executive will analyze the need to declare the public utility of the project, allowing it to progress according to the Government's plans.

The project's substantiation note indicates that the investment aligns with the objectives outlined in the 2030 Mobility Strategy, which focuses on developing transport infrastructure and constructing bypasses to divert traffic away from urban areas.
However, the document does not provide details on the estimated cost of the works, the funding source, or the execution timeline. Currently, the project is in the preparation stage, and the authorities plan to follow the necessary procedures to declare the work as a public utility of national interest.
Additionally, in June 2026, projects were announced for the R7 sector in the city of Drochia aimed at enhancing traffic safety. These improvements will include installing traffic lights near the city market and the bus station.
