Maia Sandu welcomes the European Parliament's request to start EU accession negotiations with Moldova
Moldova's place is in the European Union, President Maia Sandu said after the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the start of EU accession negotiations with our country. At the same time, Maia Sandu gave assurances that state institutions will comply with the European Commission's recommendations so that we are ready to start accession negotiations.
"Moldova's place is in the European Union - this is demanded by our citizens, our institutions are working towards this goal and we have the full support of the European states to become a member of the EU. We thank our European friends who trust us and appreciate our contribution to ensuring stability and peace in the region (...). Today, the Republic of Moldova has been confirmed once again that it is expected in the big European family".
The President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, also expressed his gratitude to the MEPs who support Moldova's European course. The head of the legislature said that in recent years Moldovans had shown that they deserved to be part of a united and strong Europe.
The European Parliament today voted a resolution calling for the start of negotiations on Moldova's accession to the European Union by the end of 2023, after the nine recommendations made by the European Commission have been met.
Today, our country will present in Brussels the first report on the implementation of the 9 recommendations of the European Commission.
