Diaspora Days 2026 launches in Chisinau with cultural exhibits
Moldova launched Diaspora Days 2026 on August 3 in Chișinău under the official theme "Wherever We Are, Moldova Unites Us." The month-long initiative opened at the National Library with an exhibition celebrating Moldovan authors living abroad.
The opening showcase featured new books by expatriate writers Dina Vrâncean, Iurie Cojocaru, and Tamara Șchiopu, along with graphic artwork by Olga Chilat.
Preserving roots across borders
France-based author Dina Vrâncean presented her new book, A Vacation in Lipnic, inspired by the contrast between her childhood in Moldova and her children's upbringing abroad.
"It is painful to see people lose touch with their origins," Vrâncean shared during a Radio Moldova broadcast. "I wanted to preserve our traditions and encourage families to stay connected with home."
UK-based organic farmer Tamara Șchiopu launched her English-language book, My Vegan Farm Food. The work combines practical farming advice, recipes, and personal stories from her team in England.
Cultural diplomacy and public engagement
Iurie Cojocaru, also residing in the United Kingdom, presented his third book, The World We Lived In, designed as a personal tribute to the places and memories that shaped his hometown experience.
Meanwhile, Brussels-based European Commission official Olga Chilat exhibited graphic art exploring traditional Romanian folklore and mythology, created as a creative bridge to her heritage.
Organizers emphasize that Diaspora Days serves as an essential bridge between expatriates and local communities, fostering civic collaboration and national development.
Upcoming events across Moldova
The program continues on August 4 at the Government House with the "Youth Change the World" session. The central event, the Diaspora Forum, takes place on August 7 at the Palace of the Republic to address civic engagement and European integration.
Public institutions across the country will host open doors days, interactive tours, and workshops throughout August, concluding with the Diaspora Cup on August 15 and a city quest in Chișinău.
