Arch of Triumph: Restoration may start in 2027
The Arch of Triumph in Chisinau will be transferred to the Ministry of Culture's administration. Once the registration and land delimitation procedures are complete, preparations for the monument's restoration can begin.
Culture Minister Dan Suruceanu announced that all technical and administrative procedures will be completed by the end of 2026, enabling the actual restoration work to begin in the spring of 2027.
The minister highlighted that the Government has already approved the decision to delimit and register the Arch of Triumph and the associated land. This step is essential for releasing the funds needed for the monument's restoration.
“A technical-administrative procedure is necessary to access the financial resources,” stated Dan Suruceanu following the Executive meeting on August 5.
He also mentioned that a technical assessment of the monument will be conducted, and a feasibility study will be developed. Subsequently, authorities will create and approve the restoration project, obtain all required urban planning documents, and estimate the costs involved in the work.
“All these tasks will be completed by the end of 2026. We will commence 2027 with the procurement procedure and the selection of the contractor responsible for the project. Consequently, we anticipate starting the restoration work by March or April,” the minister said.
In addition to the funding allocated in the state budget for the restoration of the monument, there is also interest from the private sector to help finance the project.
"We have received interest from private entities that are willing to assist in funding these works," said Dan Suruceanu.
According to the minister, if all procedures proceed as planned, the restoration work should be completed by the end of 2027.
