Tusk: New challenges may arise on the Polish-Ukrainian border following recent Moldovan border attacks
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is warning about potential new Russian provocations along the Polish-Ukrainian border, referencing recent incidents targeting border crossings in the Republic of Moldova.
On the night of September 10, special services from Poland and Ukraine successfully thwarted a direct threat at one of the crossing points on their shared border. In response, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that Warsaw anticipates new challenges from Russia along its borders with Ukraine, as reported by RMF24.
The Prime Minister indicated that CIA Director John Ratcliffe had provided him with a detailed report outlining potential developments in the coming months.
“As I have warned in recent months, we must be prepared for various scenarios. Poland and all of Europe need to anticipate any developments, not only regarding the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian front but also concerning security on the eastern flank of the European Union,” Tusk emphasized.
He noted that the coordinated efforts of Polish and Ukrainian services had prevented an imminent threat at the border crossing. Tusk also mentioned that Russia had already conducted provocative attacks at some border points, including in the Republic of Moldova, warning that similar actions could target other countries neighboring Ukraine.
“We expect such actions, especially concerning border crossing points with Ukraine from other states, including Poland,” he added.
According to Tusk, the incident on the night of September 10 served as a serious warning: “Everything ended well, but we must be prepared for similar challenges and for threats of internal sabotage.” He underscored that the security of all of Europe is at stake, and Poland is taking on a crucial mission for the European community.
“It is not that Poland needs the help of the European Union in this matter. Right now, we are carrying out the toughest mission for all of Europe. No one is doing anyone a favor; we simply must face this together because it is a matter of security for the entire European Union,” Tusk pointed out.
It is worth noting that on the night of September 9, Russian troops launched their fifth attack on a border crossing point in the Odessa region, targeting the one in Starokazacie. This attack resulted in the deaths of two civilians and injured three others, including a citizen of the Republic of Moldova. Additionally, the assault destroyed or damaged buses, cars, and trucks near the crossing point.
