Chișinău restocks city lakes with 1.5 tons of fish

Chișinău municipal authorities began restocking urban lakes on Sunday, releasing several hundred kilograms of juvenile fish into the lake at La Izvor Park in the capital's Buiucani district.
The initiative was organized in cooperation with the local recreational angling community, whose members requested the measure and assisted with logistical support on site.
Ecological balance across municipal parks
Crews plan to release a total of 1.5 metric tons of fish fingerlings—including common carp, silver carp, and grass carp—into the La Izvor reservoir over the coming days.
The environmental program will gradually expand to other major public parks across the Moldovan capital, including Valea Morilor, Valea Trandafirilor, Râșcani, and Dumitru Râșcanu.
“Over the next few weeks, restocking operations will take place in the largest water reservoirs across the municipality of Chișinău,” said Mayor Ion Ceban.
Municipal specialists noted that introducing herbivorous fish species aims to curb excessive aquatic vegetation, improve water clarity, and restore the natural biological balance of city lakes.
