Elections in seven Moldovan localities; over 18,000 expected at polls

Over 18,000 citizens from seven localities in the Republic of Moldova are expected to vote today, November 1. In five of these localities, voters will elect mayors; in another, they will choose a new local council; and in one village, residents will decide, by referendum, on the exploitation of mineral resources in their locality.
According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), mayoral elections are taking place in the villages of Cairaclia and Novosiolovca (Taraclia district), the town of Costești (Rîșcani district), the village of Hăsnășenii Mari (Drochia district), and the village of Chirsova (Gagauzia).
In the village of Tomai (Gagauzia), citizens are voting to elect a new local council. Meanwhile, residents of the village of Delacău (Anenii Noi district) are being asked to decide, via a referendum, whether they consent to the exploitation of mineral resources within their locality.
Twelve polling stations were opened for these elections, operating from 07:00 to 21:00. The CEC has printed 18,251 ballots: 5,679 in Romanian, 12,010 in Russian, 362 in Bulgarian, and 200 in Gagauz.
23 national observers accredited by the CEC are monitoring the electoral process.
Voters must present physical identification documents at the polling stations. Because of recent cyber incidents affecting digital public services, voters cannot use electronic documents in the EVO application for identification.
Individuals unable to travel to a polling station due to health issues or other valid reasons may request a mobile ballot box. On election day, such requests are accepted until 14:00, provided they include a medical certificate.
