Six people, including three employees of the Border Police, detained in a cigarette smuggling case
Six people, three of whom are employees of the Border Police Sector in Leova, were detained following their attempt to take over 600,000 cigarettes out of the country. The suspects are between 31 and 42 years old.
The prosecutors announce that the smuggling attempt happened in the vicinity of Tochile-Răducani, Leova district, and at the scene were found: a car belonging to the organizer, an inflatable boat and over 300,000 cigarettes with local excise stamp.
The following day, in a locality in Leova, another 300,000 cigarettes, an illegally possessed weapon and police uniforms were found at the residence of the organizer of the criminal group, although the person is not employed by any police body. Also, within the file, on the same day, two other employees of the Border Police were detained, one was a manager.
According to PCCOCS, the arrests happened in the middle and second part of the previous week, after which arrest warrants were issued. Thus, following the decision of the magistrates, four of the six detained persons, two of whom are border police officers, will spend the next 30 days in Penitentiary no. 5, and for two other people - house arrest.
