Maia Sandu says elections in Gagauzia are being conducted with several deviations
National investigation structures have shown that the election campaign in Gagauzia was far from transparent and there was conclusive evidence that several abuses were committed. The statement was made by President Maia Sandu in an online broadcast moderated by Andrei Bolocan.
"It is clear that there are many violations in this election. We have seen more evidence of these violations. I think a big question is the electoral commission's autonomy, because this structure is the one that can make the right decisions to prevent these abuses and these illegalities. From 2024, the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova will have a major role in the organization of elections in the autonomy and I am sure that things will happen differently, correctly", said Maia Sandu.
The head of state also noted that Russian propaganda has been operating in Gagauzia for a long time and noted that the law banning certain propaganda TV channels, which are dangerous for the Republic of Moldova, is not fully implemented in Gagauzia because the authorities there are opposed to it. In this context, the President said that Chisinau is striving to have a coherent anti-disinformation policy that is valid for the whole country, including the autonomous region.
