Prime Minister Dorin Recean's reaction to the situation in Gagauzia: "I call on everyone to be calm"

Nobody will elect the Bashkan of Gagauzia instead of the citizens of Gagauzia, and the problems identified in the electoral process will be assessed by the court. This is the statement of Prime Minister Dorin Recean on the situation in Comrat. In this context, the Chief Executive called on everyone to calm down and assured citizens that the Executive will work with them and with the mayors of the region.

On Wednesday, May 17, the prosecution officer, under the direction of the prosecutor in the case, requested the representative of the Central Electoral Commission of ATU Gagauzia to report to the NAC headquarters for the unsealing procedure of the boxes with the voter lists, which were collected on Tuesday.

"It is a procedural action to be carried out in the presence of the CEC representative's lawyer and is being filmed, with the recording attached to the file. The CEC representative and his lawyer have been contacted for today, but we have been informed that they are available to participate in the procedural action on Friday, May 19," the NAC statement said.

The institution also says that after unsealing the boxes with the electoral lists, the prosecution officer is to make copies of them and ensure that the original lists are sent to the Comrat Court.

The action, which was carried out by the National Anti-Corruption Centre (NAC) jointly with the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Investigation Inspectorate in Comrat, took place within the framework of the criminal case, which was initiated on the facts of illegal financing of a political party and corruption of voters.

CNA masks raided the offices of the Comrat Electoral Council on Tuesday, 16 May. NAC spokesperson Angela Starinschi told radiomoldova.md that "criminal prosecution actions are taking place in the case of voter corruption". It comes after the authority announced the final results of the elections for the position of Bashkan of the Gagauz autonomy, which show as the winner the candidate of the Sor Party, Evghenia Gutul.

In a statement, the " Șor " Party claims that the purpose of the searches was to confiscate the minutes so that they would not be sent to the Comrat Court of Appeal for validation.

According to the CEC, the candidate of the "Șor" Party, Evghenia Guțul, obtained the largest amount of money in violation of the law - almost 460,000 lei from 65 people. Victor Petrov follows - over 436,000 lei and Grigore Uzun about 184,000 lei.

The deputy chairman of the Central Electoral Commission, Pavel Postica, explained to Radio Moldova that the Comrat electoral authority has not adjusted its regulations in line with the national legislation. The Central Electoral Commission will hear candidates and donors, including MPs, who allegedly broke the law, Pavel Postica said.
