Parliamentary Committee of the Parliamentary Dimension of the Central European Initiative will meet on Tuesday in Chisinau
The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova will be hosting the Parliamentary Committee Meeting of the Parliamentary Dimension of the Central European Initiative (CEI PA) on 23 May in Chisinau.
According to the press service of the Chisinau Parliament, the meeting will be attended by representatives of 11 member countries of the organisation: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Ukraine. During the event, parliamentarians will debate the issue of energy security in the ECI member states in the wake of the Russian Federation's war of aggression against Ukraine and the impact of this war on the European path of EU candidate countries.
At the opening of the meeting, the participants will be welcomed by the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Grosu, the acting President of the Parliamentary Dimension of the Central European Initiative, Igor Chiriac, and the Secretary General of the ECI, Roberto Antonione.
The meeting's final document will be adopted at the end of the discussions, which will encourage regional cooperation in the field of energy security and in the continuation of the European integration path of EU candidate countries.
"The Republic of Moldova holds the Presidency of the Central European Initiative. The CEI is the oldest and largest intergovernmental forum for regional cooperation in Central Europe, which promotes political, economic, cultural and scientific cooperation between member states. The political cooperation objective of the ECI is to provide countries and their institutions with a flexible platform for regional cooperation, while focusing on preparing them for future membership of the European Union," the statement said.
The Republic of Moldova has been a member of the Central European Initiative since 1996.
