Nearly 2,200 baccalaureate candidates got automatically "10" in foreign language, the best result in nine years
Some 2,200 students in the Republic of Moldova have obtained automatically "10" after taking internationally recognised exams to certify foreign language skills. According to the Ministry of Education, the number of candidates benefiting from this facility is the highest in nine years.
A record number of candidates - 2,192 - have obtained automatically "10" in the foreign language exam. The decision was approved at Wednesday's meeting of the National Examinations Commission.
According to the Regulation on the National Baccalaureate Examination, candidates who have taken internationally recognised examinations for the certification of foreign language skills during their years of study in general education will be awarded automatically "10".
The number of candidates benefiting from this facility is the highest for nine years. In last year's baccalaureate session "10" (ten) mark in the foreign language exam was automatically obtained by 1,596 candidates, in the 2021 session - by 1,299, and in the 2020 session - by 1,349. In 2015, when this practice was instituted, 229 students got the highest mark in the foreign language test of the baccalaureate exam, based on certificates attesting language proficiency.
"The increasing number of students with outstanding international performance shows the growing interest in language learning. I congratulate students and teachers for these results", said Minister of Education and Research Anatolie Topala.
In this year's baccalaureate session, three high school graduates will have to take only one exam, due to the fact that they will receive three/four marks of "10" (ten) by default, both on the basis of certificates attesting to language skills in foreign languages and on the basis of prizes obtained at republican and/or international olympiads in the subjects of study. According to the same criteria, a further 32 young people will receive two "10" (ten) marks ex officio in the national baccalaureate examination.
The 2023 baccalaureate session will take place, according to the Examination Session Schedule, from 2-20 June. More than 19,000 candidates have registered for the session, of which about 2,000 candidates are backlogs from previous sessions.
Candidates will sit the exams in 93 baccalaureate centres, 31 of which are established in Chisinau municipality.
