The BITEI slogan - "Chisinau, the ideal place for meetings!", does not lose its scope

Surprises are in store at the 13th edition of the International Festival of Performing Arts BITEI-2023! During the first three days of the event, held under the patronage of President Maia Sandu, there were theatre premieres, Flamenco dance performances, exhibitions and discussions about theatre art in the world. For the first time, spectators applauded a street performance in Chisinau and, also for the first time, a theatre group from China came to the festival.

The touching tribute to friendship and humanity in "Old Friends", presented by a Chinese theatre company, features Chinese poems over 2,500 years old. These were harmoniously complemented by dances and songs played on ancient traditional instruments.

"We came all the way from Cantemir to this performance.";

"We wanted to see other cultures.";

"Because our peoples must be friends", shared the impressions of several audience members.

A surprise was the inclusion in the structure of the performance of the poem "Friend" by Grigore Vieru. And in Chinese, it sounded beautiful, but also unusual...

The presence in Chisinau of a theatre from China is due to the friendly relations between people of culture.

"This link with China helped us to build our colleagues in Japan. We all know what a cultural treasure trove China has in terms of the performing arts in particular," said director and actor Petru Vutcărău, director and founder of BITEI.

Director Yasuda Masahiro from Japan said he first came to BITEI in 2013 with his theatre company.

"Our friendship continues. I enjoy seeing such different performances at the festival."

The festival is back with more news. "In the National Opera's forecourt, there was an open-air performance of Moby Dick. It was a magnificent performance, a great show in every way. Such a theatrical show has never taken place in Chisinau", said Petru Vutcărău, founder of BITEI.

"We have exactly the same impression: Europe is in Chisinau! It's as if people have always been watching shows in the street, quality shows, in a bohemian atmosphere. The festival, in general, means a gathering of creative forces", says journalist Liliana Popușoi.

AMTAP graduate Anastasia Voleanschi is delighted to have the opportunity to watch a world-class performance at home.

"It's more than a theatre, it's more than a show! It's getting to know the world. I'm glad we have the chance to see shows from other countries come here. We don't have to go anywhere!"

Details about the performance of the theatres coming to Chisinau from ten countries of the world can be found only on Moldova 1, every evening at 22:20 in the BITEI Agenda.
