Incident at Chisinau Airport// The attacker was wanted for kidnapping in Tajikistan

The man who opened fire at Chisinau International Airport is wanted in Tajikistan for involvement in a kidnapping case, the Dushanbe Prosecutor General's Office says.

According to the source, the assailant is Rustam Ashurov, a member of an organised criminal group that kidnapped a bank vice-president in June.

Ashurov fled to the Republic of Moldova via Turkey with the aim of hiding in European Union countries, the Tajik Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

As a reminder, on Friday, a Tajik citizen killed two people and injured another after being denied entry into Moldova.

According to the authorities, while accompanying him to the sterile area for return, he shot dead a border policeman and an airport security employee with a weapon stolen from a border police employee.

The assailant was captured by the Lightning Special Purpose Brigade and is in serious condition in hospital. He faces life imprisonment for his crimes, said Acting Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu.
