Maia Sandu congratulates the young weightlifters, who achieved performances at the European Championship: "I wish them to reach the Olympic podium"

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has sent a congratulatory message to young weightlifters who won 21 medals at the European Weightlifting Championships. The head of state thanked the coaches and organisers of this championship - for the first time held in Moldova.

"I congratulate all 32 athletes who represented our country. I warmly congratulate Nicoleta Cojocaru, who became European champion in weightlifting at the age of 13, vice-champion Anastasia Cernopolc and vice-champions Alexandr Baladji, Danu Secrieru, Dan Betca, Ion Badanev and Vadim Danuta. I wish the young athletes all the best to reach the Olympic podium", said President Maia Sandu.

The President congratulated the coaches and teachers of the Republican Sports High School and the Municipal Boarding Sports High School.

"Thank you for the talents you are carefully raising. The Republic of Moldova is hosting for the first time a European Championship in an Olympic sports event. We have shown that we are also good at organising international competitions at home. We have potential and every success helps us to show that Moldova can", concluded the head of state.

Moldovan weightlifters who won 21 medals at the European Youth Weightlifting Championships. Moldovan champions took 4 gold, 12 silver and 5 bronze medals.
