Destroyed Russian tanks on display in Kiev ahead of Independence Day
Ahead of Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24, a parade of destroyed Russian tanks, military vehicles, howitzers, and rocket launchers was put on display in the centre of Kiev. The display is a symbol of the Ukrainian people's resistance to the Russian invasion, and a reminder of the heavy losses that the Russian military has suffered.
The tanks and other vehicles were displayed on Kreschatik Street, a major thoroughfare in Kiev. They had been collected from the battlefield, where they had been destroyed by Ukrainian forces.
One bystander, who gave her name only as Anna, said she was proud of the Ukrainian armed forces. "This shows how our soldiers fight," she said. "I feel very happy and proud for Ukraine and I hope we will be independent."
Another bystander, who did not give his name, said the display was a reminder of the horrors of war. "It is very difficult to realise and understand what is happening," he said. "People need to know what is happening here in Ukraine."
The display of destroyed Russian tanks is a powerful symbol of the Ukrainian people's resilience and determination in the face of Russian aggression. It is a reminder that the Ukrainian people will not give up their fight for independence, no matter what the cost.
