Maia Sandu meets with Moldovans in the Netherlands
President Maia Sandu met with Moldovans living in the Netherlands on Sunday to discuss reforms in the country, the security situation in Moldova and the region, and the impact of climate change.
The meeting also focused on education, with Sandu discussing how to build competitive universities, develop research in universities, improve the quality of general education, and ensure a well-trained teaching workforce.
“The majority of the over 100 compatriots present at the discussion came here to study and then stayed to work in the Netherlands,” Sandu said. “But they are all very interested in the situation at home. Many of them organise activities to promote the image of our country in the Netherlands and participate in projects in Moldova. I encouraged them to return home, especially now that the processes related to EU accession are gaining momentum and we need more and more well-trained specialists to move forward.”
During the meeting, Sandu also presented awards to cultural figures who have contributed to promoting the image of Moldova abroad. Soprano Diana Axentii, pianist Mariana Izman, and violinist Ionel Manciu were awarded the honorary title of “Master of Art,” and pianists Laura Balicov and Stanislav Jar were awarded the honorary title of “Emerited Artist.”
