Romania hosts 3 Seas Initiative summit, Moldova joins
Romania is hosting the 8th edition of the 3 Seas Initiative summit on September 6-7, 2023. The summit is being hosted by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and will mark the accession of Greece as the 13th member of the initiative. Republic of Moldova and Ukraine will also join as associate members.
In his opening remarks, President Iohannis will highlight the importance of the 3 Seas Initiative in promoting regional cooperation and connectivity. He will also stress the need to accelerate the implementation of the initiative's priority projects, especially in light of the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The summit will be attended by representatives from all 12 participating countries, as well as strategic partners such as the United States, the European Commission, and Germany. It will also be attended by a number of invited guests, including representatives from Georgia, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, and Turkey.
The summit is expected to focus on the following key areas:
Infrastructure development: The summit will discuss ways to accelerate the construction of priority infrastructure projects, such as roads, railways, and energy pipelines.
Economic cooperation: The summit will explore ways to boost trade and investment between the participating countries.
Regional security: The summit will discuss ways to strengthen regional security in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
