The acting charge d'affaires of the Russian Embassy in Bucharest was summoned to the Romanian Foreign Ministry on Saturday, where Secretary of State for Strategic Affairs Iulian Fota conveyed Romania's protest over the violation of Romanian airspace following the identification of drone fragments on Romanian territory, near the border with Ukraine, similar to those used by Russian forces in their aggression against Ukraine, hotnews.ro reports.
At the direction of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the acting charge d'affaires of the Russian Embassy in Bucharest was summoned to the Romanian Foreign Ministry on Saturday at the level of secretary of state.
The fact that the acting charge d'affaires of Moscow in Romania was summoned to the MAE headquarters suggests that Ambassador Valeri Kuzmin is out and has left this ad interim in charge of the Russian diplomatic mission in Bucharest.
Secretary of State for Strategic Affairs Iulian Fota conveyed Romania's protest over the violation of Romanian airspace following the identification of drone fragments on Romanian territory, near the border with Ukraine, similar to those used by Russian forces in their aggression against Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement quoted on Sunday by the MAE.
According to the source, the Romanian official condemned the systematic, unjustified and brutal attacks by Russian forces against the Ukrainian civilian population and infrastructure, including that on the Danube, near the border with Romania, generating security risks for Romanian citizens in the vicinity.
“Secretary of State Iulian Fota strongly requested the Russian side to stop actions against the Ukrainian population and infrastructure, including those that would in any way threaten the safety and security of Romanian citizens in the region,” the MAE said.
President Klaus Iohannis said that this was “an absolutely unacceptable violation of Romania's sovereign airspace!”
Defense Minister Angel Tîlvăr announced on Wednesday that the first indications that debris that could be associated with drone-type equipment had been found in Tulcea County were found only on Tuesday, at around 6 p.m., and the information provided to President Klaus Iohannis on Tuesday that “no drone” had fallen in our country was correct at the time.
The Romanian Defense Ministry confirmed on Wednesday that pieces of a Russian drone used in attacks against the port of Izmail, located 250-300 metres across the Chilia branch, were found on Romanian territory.
NATO has no indication that the drone fragments found on Romanian territory were caused by a deliberate attack launched by Moscow against our country, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Thursday.
