Today is the day of national mourning in the Republic of Moldova, in connection with the death of the prose writer, playwright and essayist Ion Druță. On this day, in all localities in the country, as well as in the diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Moldova abroad, the State Flag of the Republic of Moldova is flown.
UPDATE 11:20 With applause, the coffin with the lifeless body of the writer Ion Druță leaves the premises of the Mihai Eminescu Theater and is to be transported to Soroca, where he will be buried today.
The funeral ceremony will begin at the "Mihai Eminescu" National Theater in Chisinau. Those who want to pay their last respects can do so between 09:00 and 11:00. Later, the coffin with the lifeless body will be transported to Soroca, where the religious service will take place.
At 12.00 a minute of silence will be held.
At 14:00 Ion Druță will be buried at the Lumânarea Recunoștinței (Candle of Gratitude) monument.
The Ministry of Culture has announced that it will honor the memory of master Ion Druță by organizing a series of special events, including a retrospective exhibition, theatrical performances and the publication of an anniversary edition of his work.
On October 2, the "Teleradio-Moldova" Company will broadcast programs from the company's archive, based on the works of the writer Ion Druță.
The Moldovan writer and playwright Ion Druta died on September 28, in Moscow. In his will, which was made public, the writer mentioned that he wanted to be buried in Soroca, at the Lumânarea Recunoștinței (Candle of Gratitude), a monument for which he dedicated 16 years of his life.
