Afghanistan hit by new 6.3-magnitude earthquake
A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck western Afghanistan on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, shaking an area where over 2,000 people were killed after similar earthquakes over the weekend.
The quake struck at a shallow depth, at around 5:10 a.m. local time (12:40 a.m. GMT), with an epicentre about 29 kilometres (18 miles) north of the city of Herat, the USGS said, citing News.ro.
There are no immediate reports of casualties. Over 2,400 people were killed in the earthquakes in Afghanistan, the Taliban administration announced on Sunday.
Multiple earthquakes struck on Saturday in the western part of the country, hitting 35 kilometres (22 miles) northwest of the city of Herat, one of them with a magnitude of 6.3 degrees, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) announced, according to Digi24.ro.
