Israel gears up for all-out assault on Hamas: land, air, and sea operations ready
Tensions in the Middle East have reached a critical point, with the Israeli army poised for a massive and unprecedented military offensive. Amid mounting pressure from diplomats and large-scale protests in Tel Aviv and other regions, the Israeli military has granted the Gaza Strip's civilians an additional three hours to evacuate the conflict zone.
This extension has now lapsed, and the military stands prepared to launch a multi-pronged attack "by land, air, and sea." The casualty count on both sides is on the rise, with over 3,600 fatalities and 14,000 injured.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened an emergency cabinet meeting, commencing with a solemn moment of silence in remembrance of the victims of last week's brutal Hamas attacks.
Netanyahu emphasised, "I have witnessed our courageous soldiers on the front lines, fully aware of the nation's unwavering support. They comprehend the enormity of their mission and are prepared to act at a moment's notice to eliminate the bloodthirsty adversaries that have risen against us. While Hamas believed they could vanquish us, we are determined to defeat Hamas."
Previously, Israeli Chief Executive Netanyahu visited the front lines and troops prepared for assault. He also inspected the border, reiterating Israel's commitment to "eradicate the Hamas organisation."
"We will dismantle all the terrorist infrastructure, uncover all the tunnels, target all Hamas operatives, and we will not cease until our mission is accomplished. This will be a formidable, lethal, precise conflict that will have lasting consequences," asserted Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
The Israeli military reports that most civilians in Gaza have sought refuge in the southern part of the Strip. In contrast, Tel Aviv authorities accuse Hamas of employing civilians as shields and assert that insurgents are obstructing evacuations. Israeli towns near the border have also been evacuated. Sderot, a town near the Gaza border, was evacuated due to renewed rocket attacks by terrorists, striking residential areas. Evacuees were assisted by authorities and transported by buses.
Meanwhile, fresh artillery fire is underway in the enclave, with plumes of black smoke billowing over Gaza City. Skirmishes and clashes have occurred on the Lebanon border, where Hezbollah launched rockets at an Israeli military post. Hezbollah fired at least four anti-tank guided missiles into northern Israel, resulting in the death of a civilian in one of the attacks.
Simultaneously, another US aircraft carrier has arrived near Israel, and the US secretary of state is set to return to Israel after numerous meetings with leaders from Arab nations in the region, with the aim of finding a solution to "de-escalate the situation."
