Oleg Serebrian: Tiraspol is sabotaging the free movement of citizens

The problem of the construction works of a fence at the administrative border between the town of Varnița and the municipality of Tighina would jeopardize the security in the area, said the deputy prime minister for reintegration, Oleg Serebrian. The official claims that Tiraspol is sabotaging the free movement of citizens. Chisinau demands explanations from Russia, but also a reaction from the OSCE mission.

"What is happening at the moment in Bender calls into question the entire mechanism of ensuring stability in the security zone. The 1992 agreement, in fact, is being called into question and we give this signal to all the partners involved in the dialogue process, but first of all to Tirapol, because it is an ill-considered action. Through these actions of sabotaging the process of free movement in the security zone, Tiraspol, in fact, questions its viability".

Chisinau is waiting for a reaction from the Russian side, but also from the partners involved in the negotiation process, including from the OSCE mission.

"We are waiting for explanations not only from Tiraspol, because it was Russia that signed the Ceasefire Agreement in 1992 and many things follow from that agreement. The presence of the so-called border guards in that area is illegal", pointed out the deputy prime minister for reintegration, Oleg Serebrian.

Recently, journalists from the Security Zone, the Office of the People's Advocate from Varnița, as well as locals from the area, reported the problem of starting the construction of a fence in the area of Matnev Street, which would be on the administrative border between Varnița, a locality under the jurisdiction of Chișinău, and Tighina, controlled by the Tiraspol regime.

In this context, Promo-LEX asked the constitutional authorities to sanction the people who are straining the situation in the region. The subject was also addressed at the Joint Control Commission. The representatives of the Transnistrian region refused to provide explanations regarding the unauthorized works, and the Chisinau delegation qualified the actions as provocative, unfounded and inadmissible.
