CEC: Today is the last day of electoral campaigning

Today is the last day of electoral campaigning before the general local elections that will take place on November 5. According to the Electoral Code, electoral campaigning is strictly prohibited on and before election day. Violation of the law by the media and electoral contestants will attract sanctions, warns the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).

"The Central Electoral Commission warns that today, November 3, 2023, is the last day on which electoral campaigning actions are allowed for the general local elections, which will take place this Sunday, November 5, 2023," reads the CEC statement.

The CEC refers to the provisions of the Electoral Code: electoral campaigning is strictly prohibited on election day and the day before it. During this period, the candidates are not allowed to appear on TV or radio broadcasts.

Also, the local public administration and advertising broadcasters have the obligation to remove electoral advertising materials. "We remind that the ban does not apply to information already placed on the Internet," reports the CEC.

Also, electoral contestants cannot make transfers to/from the account marked "Electoral Fund".

Violation of the provisions of the Electoral Code by continuing election campaigning activities on Saturday and Sunday will be sanctioned with a fine. "According to art. 52 of the Criminal Code no. 218/2008, the continuation of electoral campaigning on the mentioned days by the media, electoral contestants and citizens constitutes an administrative offense and is sanctioned with a fine of 40 to 60 conventional units applied to individuals, with a fine of 100 to 150 conventional units applied to the legal entities", reads the CEC press release.
