Moldova's biathletes impress in first stage of World Cup
The Moldovan biathlon team made a respectable start to the new competitive season, with several strong results in the first stage of the Biathlon World Cup in Ostersund, Sweden.
In the men's 20km individual, Pavel Magazeev finished in 18th place, just 22 seconds behind the winner. Maxim Makarov finished in 40th place, and Andrei Usov did not finish in the top 100.
In the women's 15km individual, Alina Stremous finished in 26th place, dethroning several established biathletes. Alla Ghilenko finished in 41st place.
A day earlier, the Moldovan team competed in the mixed relay. The tandem of Alina Stremous and Maxim Makarov finished in 16th place out of 24 participating teams.
The inaugural stage of the Biathlon World Cup in Ostersund will continue until the end of next week with other events.
