The Republic of Moldova and Romania will sign a Memorandum for the interconnection of natural gas and electricity networks

The Ministry of Energy from the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Energy from Romania will sign on December 11 a Memorandum regarding the realization of the projects of interconnection of natural gas and electricity networks, said the Secretary of State from the Ministry of Energy, Cristina Pereteatcu.

According to her, the advancement of the investment projects provided for in the Memorandum will allow both the increase in the degree of security in the supply of energy resources of the two states, as well as the diversification of the supply routes at the regional level.

"It establishes the implementation of actions such as the expansion of the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline through the construction of a gas transport pipeline, the Chisinau belt, the implementation of strategically important projects such as the 400 kV Suceava-Bălți power line, the construction of a new interconnection line of 400 kV between Strășeni and a power station on the territory of Romania and the creation of the conditions regarding the designation of "OPCOM" SA as the operator of the electricity market in the Republic of Moldova in order to integrate the electricity market of the Republic of Moldova into the internal electricity market of the Union European", said Cristina Pereteatcu.

The memorandum provides for the possibility of increasing the natural gas transport capacity. The objective could be achieved by 2031.
