Zelensky promises Ukrainians victory against Russia
Volodymyr Zelensky told his fellow citizens on Wednesday that Ukraine will defeat Russia and achieve a fair peace, “despite all the vicissitudes”, as the future of vital military and financial aid from the US is in doubt, Agerpres reports.
Zelenskiy launched the bold message in an unusually early morning video, in which he was filmed walking through Kiev to a memorial to fallen soldiers for the country on the occasion of Ukrainian Armed Forces Day.
“It was hard, but we persevered,” said Zelensky, on his way to the ‘Wall of Remembrance’ in central Kyiv. “Now it is not easy, but we are moving. No matter how hard it is, we will get there. To our borders, to our people. To our peace. A fair peace. A free peace. Against all odds,” he assured, according to , which cites Reuters.
His message appeared to be a response to the uncertainty hanging over the future of a major aid package for Ukraine that has been stalled for weeks in the US Congress.
In Wednesday’s film, the Ukrainian head of state greets those he meets on the slippery streets of Kiev, under the winter sky.
Zelensky also states that Ukraine has no alternative to freeing the territories occupied by Russia.
“They are our lands. They are our people. Is there an alternative? No. We have nine years and 651 days of war behind us. We have victory ahead. And how else? Could there be an alternative? We all know: no,” he emphasized Ukrainian president.
