Russian paramilitaries in Ukraine claim a cross-border attack in Belgorod
The Russian Freedom Legion, a Ukrainian-based paramilitary group made up of Russians opposed to President Vladimir Putin, claimed Sunday a cross-border attack several kilometers inside the Belgorod region, Reuters reports.
The group, designated a terrorist group in Russia, said it had destroyed a stronghold of Russian troops near the town of Terebreno, without specifying whether it destroyed infrastructure or killed soldiers, and added that it had left mines behind.
On Sunday, Viacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region, which faces frequent attacks by Ukrainian forces, said Terebreno was under fire from the Ukrainian armed forces and that a "battle" was underway on the outskirts of the town.
He said no civilians were injured, but three houses and power lines were damaged. On Saturday, he posted on the Telegram messaging app that 19 villages or farms had been targeted by Ukrainian bombing or drone-launched explosives.
