Public & private integrity: Moldova charts course against corruption
Moldova's Parliament cemented its commitment to combating corruption by officially adopting a comprehensive anti-corruption program for 2024-2028.
With 60 deputies supporting the initiative, the program outlines a multi-pronged approach to fortify the national anti-corruption system and cultivate a culture of integrity.
"This collaborative effort, crafted alongside the National Anti-Corruption Center, replaces the expiring program, fulfilling a crucial obligation under the Moldova-EU Association Agreement," as stated in a Parliament press release.
The program targets four key objectives:
- Boosting integrity standards within the public sector.
- Streamlining anti-corruption measures and ensuring swift, effective sanctions for offenders.
- Promoting integrity and curbing corruption in the private sector, including state-owned entities.
- Fostering a societal intolerance towards corruption and encouraging whistleblowing of corrupt acts and unlawful practices.
"The program's objectives align seamlessly with the priorities outlined in Moldova's national development strategy, 'Moldova European 2030,'" the release concluded, highlighting the program's strategic coherence.
The adoption of this program underscores Moldova's sustained efforts to tackle corruption head-on. It demonstrates the government's unwavering commitment to building a more transparent and equitable society for its citizens.
