Moldova's €2 million boost for student housing modernization

The Moldovan Ministry of Education and Research has announced a significant investment of €2 million to renovate two student dormitories in 2024.

This initiative targets facilities at the prestigious State University of Moldova (USM) and the Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University, with a focus on improving living conditions for students pursuing pedagogy degrees.

Prioritising Pedagogy Students

"These dormitories are primarily intended for those who study pedagogy," emphasised Education Minister Dan Perciun. "This investment demonstrates our commitment to not only providing our future educators with a high-quality education but also ensuring they have access to safe and comfortable housing."

Building on Previous Investments

This announcement builds upon an earlier allocation of 23 million lei in October 2023 for repairs to student dormitories across five universities in Moldova. In 2024, individual institutions are expected to contribute up to 5 million lei towards further modernising their dorms and enhancing the overall student living experience.

Investing in the Future of Moldova

"These investments are crucial for fostering a learning environment that fosters student success," Minister Perciun stated. "We are unwavering in our dedication to providing students with the highest quality education, and that encompasses ensuring access to safe, comfortable, and modern housing facilities."

Transparency and Timeline

While the specific details of the renovation projects, including timelines and scope of work, remain undisclosed, the Ministry of Education and Research has confirmed their completion within 2024. This transparency ensures accountability and allows students and the public to track the progress of these important upgrades.
