Omicron, the dominant strain on the territory of the Republic of Moldova

The Omicron strain remains dominant on the territory of the Republic of Moldova in triggering cases of COVID-19 illness. This is what the data of the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP) show.

Following several analyses carried out by the ANSP, in the 16 selected samples, the exclusive circulation of the sublines belonging to the Omicron variant was identified. The samples were selected from different regions of the country: from the municipality of Chisinau, the districts of Ialoveni, Cimișlia, Orhei, Strășeni and Basarabeasca.

The results of this analysis are integrated into the National Surveillance System and later added to the international database, where they can be compared with virus variants from other countries.

In this context, ANSP specialists recommend that citizens get vaccinated, this being the only safe and effective method to prevent serious cases of illness and death from COVID-19.
